Our Story

William and Emily standing in front of a tractor

William was born an entrepreneur. Since elementary school, he’s been writing

down every business idea imaginable—from tech to tutoring to farming, he’s thought about it. He’s also a risk-taker and visionary, which means he’s always exploring new ideas and discussing new things to try, especially if no one else is doing them. (I’m pretty much the opposite—I'm slow to try new things and like to plan for everything that could possibly go wrong.) But it was William’s love of starting businesses that gave us the opportunity to get to know each other.

We grew up knowing each other in high school through our church; we were in the same friend group. When we were around 15, William asked me if I’d be interested in starting a business with him…baking and selling cookies. I wasn’t particularly interested in building a cookie empire, but I was interested in spending more time with William…so I said yes.

The cookie business went well, but was short-lived. William must have appreciated my willingness to do business with him, because he asked me out a little while later, and we got married when I finished college. We bought a house in town because we couldn’t find a country property, but William didn’t let that stop him from writing down farm business ideas, researching animal breeds, and learning about regenerative agriculture methods. His enthusiasm was contagious, and my long-buried childhood dreams of living on a farm were rekindled. It wasn’t long before we were keeping an eye on country real estate listings, planting a small vegetable garden in our backyard, and dreaming about farming possibilties.

After a couple years of searching, we found the property we had been looking for. We moved in the summer of 2020 and didn’t waste any time purchasing our first day-old laying hens and first Dexter cow & heifer calf. We learned a lot those first couple years, trying new things and figuring out what worked and what didn’t. We planted pasture, built a chicken run, and put up electric fences. We collected our first eggs, chased loose pigs around our property, milked our first cow, and lost some cows, learning every step of the way. And now here we are, finding our groove with a few years of raising chickens and turkeys behind us. We are loving this journey and are so grateful for our community who support small farming by purchasing eggs & pastured poultry.
